Experience Genoa

As we welcome our Sunseeker Family to Salone Nautico, we’ve taken a look at some of the finest eateries in this corner of the world. Nestled on the Italian Riveria, Genoa has an understated vibe which allows you to feel disconnected, yet at home.

Whilst home to maritime empires from the middle ages, the food is not quite what you’d imagine. The city’s food heritage lies predominantly with its land grown food, with Pesto being founded here, and still made by hand using marble Mortars. Light olive oils originating from along the Ligurian coastline add depth to most dishes including pasta made using chestnut or chickpea flour.

Smaller and more traditional eateries such as street food normally appear from either Sciamaddes with sweet baked goods such as tarts and pancakes to be found baking in wood ovens or at Friggitorie which specialises in boiling the legendary olive oil over charcoal and submerging small fish, squid and other seafood.

If that’s not enough to tickle the taste buds, we’re sure that these will do just the trick after a busy day browsing our boats:

Ristorante Teresa

Run by the same family with passion and enthusiasm for the past 50 years, this historic restaurant is now in the hands of the second generation. Its fish specialities have become even more refined as a result.  At the Teresa Restaurant, nothing is left to chance: the care, attention and delicacy with which every single preparation is created bear the signature of Tina and her family, the beating heart and soul of this Genoese gastronomic paradise.

Le Rune

Featuring various small dining rooms, including one directly above the kitchen (very popular despite the heat). The food is regional with an emphasis on fish and seafood, and the menu includes some reasonably priced options, as well as individual dishes. The restaurant is located in Salita Inferiore di Sant’Anna, a few steps from Piazza Portello. Located in the center, it is adjacent to the majestic Via Garibaldi, one of the most famous pedestrian streets of the city famous for its Palazzi dei Rolli full of unique frescoes and paintings.

Zeffirino

The Zeffirino family in 2019 celebrated “80 years of business” The credit for having traced this path goes to Zeffirino Belloni, a small man physically but of great stature, who with a simple elementary license and a heroic determination led his family to achieve a goal that for many, to that epoch, may have appeared impossible. Today the Zeffirino family, the name with which it is now identified, has reached its fifth generation and sees the handover to the grandchildren: Marco, who holds the role of manager assisted by Paola, Sabrina and Lucia; together they continue the path traced by their grandfather Zeffirino in the management of the family restaurant.
